About Me

Hi My Name Is
Spencer Broom

Spencer Broom In Vietnam

I am going to be honest. This is going to be long, and most of you probably wont read all of it. Well, maybe not that long, it just depends on how I am feeling.

Back in 2013 I quit my cushy outside sales job because something didn't seem right with me. I wasn't really sure what it was but I knew that the position just wasn't for me. I had managed to get some money saved up and did all kinds of odd jobs. I found myself working retail, I was a bank teller, randomly got paid to be a fake Oklahoma State fan on a morning TV show and for a brief stint I was even a roofing salesman.

In Hanoi Vietnam on vacation with my Korean Boss.

One of my friends families was even generous enough to even let me stay in one of their spare bedrooms. I will forever be grateful for that.

I honestly didn't know what I was doing and starting to think I had absolutely made a horrible decision quitting my job. I was grateful for the position and it allowed me to save up a good amount of money but I was quickly burning through it.

I was however accepted into graduate school and was really just trying to make it to the beginning of the semester.

I lived in Seoul Korea for around 3 years. I was able to live with and work with people from literally all over the globe.

The opportunity even allowed me to finish my masters degree, something I am very proud of. People who say that online degrees are easier to get is well full of BS. If you do not have your time management skills on lock down you will not be getting a degree. Ok, Tangent over...

I think Teaching Abroad is an amazing experience. It is what allowed me to travel to so many countries and live a life I could have only dreamed of.

Well that gets us to my second year in Korea, and I originally started this website that you are currently on, www.travelbybroom.com. It has gone through one too many versions of itself. Hopefully this one will be sticking around for awhile.

I would see posts of so many people making the equivalent of full time incomes via the power of the internet, and I thought I would give it a try.

If you want to help me out you can become one of my patrons!

Starting this Travel Blog was something that really excited me. I would get off work everyday and work on it.

While you might also think, hey you're in another country, do you really need an excuse to get out and explore?

Well if you know me, you would also know that I kind of like to stay at home and relax. I am very much a homebody.

But now that I needed more content for the blog, I wanted to go out more and see more and do more.

The blog also got me really interested in digital marketing. So I dug deep into social media marketing. Instagram was my main jam and I might have implemented some questionable tactics into growing it.

Don't do what I did. (Hint: Something to do with apps and fake coins and a few other things)

I should probably step up my Insta-game as it is currently severely lacking. Follow me on Instagram Here!

I went deep and invested in all kinds of courses and programs to get good at this new skill that I wanted to master. (I probably invested too much money to be completely honest)

I picked up a course by one of those guru affiliate marketers, and before I knew it I had made around a thousand dollars.

I honestly don't even know what I was doing when I stumbled across his course. But from that point on I was hooked into being a Digital Marketer.

The idea that I could travel where I wanted when I wanted, was mesmerizing.

By this time I figured it was time to move on from South Korea and explore a new country full time as well.

So Off to China I went.

Oh with this very blog Travel blog, I managed to get some press passes to some very awesome concerts and even some free tours as well.

To say I learned a thing or 2 about internet marketing would be an understatement.

Unfortunately I didn't really anticipate how strict China is regarding the Internet. Half the websites I used were now blocked and the internet was so slow I had a terrible time trying to do any kind of web design.

I also highly recommend everyone uses a VPN when on public WiFi or when traveling now as well. Just for a variety of reasons.

However their was light at the end of the tunnel.

This is the 100% truth and you can believe me or not, its really up to you.

So I created a Facebook fan page for a digital marketing agency I wanted to start. This page looked like crap, really it was bad.

I slapped this page together and just started inviting all of my friends to like it.

Next thing I knew, I landed my first SEO client.

Literally just inviting people to like that page was what it took to get the ball rolling.

After some money exchanged hands I got to work on his website.

So for anyone who is hesitating and thinking everything has to be perfect before they get started, well you are wrong.

Just get started and as Ms Frizzle would say, get messy and make mistakes.

"Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy" - Ms Frizzle

I got his site ranked and to this day its still on the first page of google for the keywords we decided on.

However my Teaching job in China wasn't going as I would have liked and one of my business partners and I had a falling out.

So back to the states I headed.

Here I am now, back in Texas.

Back to doing Digital Marketing, working on this site, and trying to live my life the best I can.

That's exactly what I want this website to be. A resource for anyone else who is interested in Digital Marketing, Travel, and really just about anything else that I find Interesting.

Well that's me.
